Prelaw Undergraduate Scholars Program (PLUS Program)

We offer one of the few PLUS Programs in the country sponsored by the Law School Admission Council. This four week program is meant to better prepare students from disadvantaged backgrounds for the realities of law school and help them to be more competitive law school applicants.

As a PLUS student you will

  • stay in the dorms on campus along with law student mentors
  • eat meals in the student union center
  • attend daily classes and workshops taught by law faculty and staff
  • participate in special events on campus, and
  • go on trips to other law schools and court facilities

Expenses

We cover all expenses related to the program, including room and board. You are required, however, to arrange and pay for your own transportation to and from the program. Stipends will not be available for participants in the summer 2008 PLUS Program. If you would like to learn more, read about the PLUS Program goals and objectives.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Students from groups historically underrepresented in the legal profession are encouraged to apply; including but not limited to ethnic minorities, low-income, first generation, or those from educationally disadvantaged communities. Students must:

  • Be a United States Citizen or United States Permanent Resident
  • Currently be enrolled in a four year college or university; community college applicants must provide proof of transfer to a four year college such as a letter of admission or transfer agreement.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Not have completed a bachelor's degree prior to the start of the PLUS Program, and be returning as a student for at least another quarter or semester after the program ends.

Students who fail to meet any of these requirements will not be considered. Students who have graduated from a four year college and have completed their bachelor's degree are not eligible. If you would like to apply for the PLUS Program, read our application requirements and instructions.

PLUS Program Dates

Interested students must apply by APRIL 15 (this deadline has been extended from April 1).  The program typically runs from early July 5 to August 2. You will receive a decision on your application by May 1st.
