How to Apply
To apply for the Emery, Law Faculty, and Public Interest Scholarships, you must check off the appropriate scholarship boxes on the Application for Admission. Admitted students will be sent additional application materials for the Public Interest Scholarships.
Dean’s Fellows and University Diversity Fellows are selected from the most competitive applicants overall. Applicants will be notified if they are awarded the University Diversity Fellowship, or if they are in contention for the Dean’s Fellowship.
Scholarship Opportunities For Incoming Students
Santa Clara University School of Law awards scholarships under several scholarship programs. These awards are available to those who demonstrate unusual potential for the study of law.
Dean’s Fellowships
Awarded to a select group of exceptional scholars during the admission process. Dean’s Fellows receive special recognition in addition to grants up to full tuition. To be considered for a fellowship, applicants must have their admissions files complete by March 1. Finalists for these awards will be determined through an on-campus interview process.
Law Faculty Scholarships
Awarded to ethnic minority students and students with special needs on the basis of financial need and professional promise. The number of scholarships awarded varies from year to year. Scholarship amounts seldom exceed half-tuition. These scholarships are generally renewable.
Emery Law Scholarships
Awarded on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and professional promise. Most scholarships range from $1,000 to several thousand dollars per year. Generally, scholarships are continued if the student maintains a superior level of performance in law studies by placing in the top 15 to 20 percent of the class.
Public Interest Scholarships
Awarded on the basis of financial need, demonstrated commitment to public interest law, and professional promise. Each year, five $5,000 awards are given to entering students. Awards are renewable at that amount for three years depending on financial need and continued commitment to public interest law. Accepted students who wish to be considered for one of these scholarships will be asked to submit a written statement reflecting their experience in serving the community.
Scholarship Opportunities For Continuing Students
In addition to the above awards, the School of Law has established several endowed scholarship funds that make awards to upper-division students in recognition of their academic excellence, diversity, and public service. Continuing students are notified about the availability of these scholarships, and are encouraged to apply.

Outside Resources
You may wish to investigate outside agency scholarship opportunities. Find out if any organizations or associations that you or your family members belong to offer scholarships. Employers (both yours and your family) often have established scholarship funds, or tuition reimbursement programs.
